Created as a symbol of tradition, as well as sincere love and loyalty, the artistic sculpture “ADDIO,” standing at 178 cm, is placed at the spot where sailors’ wives used to bid farewell to their husbands. This bronze sculpture, dedicated to Marija Stuparić, the wife of Captain Aldebrand Petrina, pays homage to these brave women who would raise a white handkerchief, waving goodbye to their sailor husbands with the words “Addio, my beloved!” as the ships disappeared into the distance.

Over 32 years of married life, these women showed exceptional strength, patience, and readiness for everything, as they spent only 13 months together in their home on the island of Lošinj. To modernly pay tribute to these women, the sculpture “ADDIO” retains a classic form but, with its airy and unique execution, conveys a deeply emotional experience.

Zvonimira Obad, an academic sculptor and the author of the sculpture, described it as a visual interpretation of a woman in traditional attire disappearing in space under the influence of the wind. The idea stems from the symbol of tradition gradually fading away, with the aim of preserving the past and renewing a sense of belonging.

The “ADDIO” statue personifies a story that dates back to ancient Greek times when the sea and distance stood between love. Domijan Miljenik, the president of the Croatian Council for Cultural Heritage, emphasizes that this statue is a place of hope and sorrow, creating an ideal environment for preserving the memory of maritime history.

The sculpture also contributes to preserving the rich maritime tradition of the island of Lošinj. The staged portrayal of sailors’ farewell, “Pozdrav kapetanu” (Farewell to the Captain), is part of the LOSINAVA festival held every September. The importance of such events is immensely significant for the preservation of tradition, making the “ADDIO” sculpture one of the indispensable tourist attractions on the island.

This year Downhill Lošinj, race of the first category of the International Cycling Union (UCI), will take place in Mali Lošinj again for the weekend from 10th to 12th of May. We invite all lovers of this extreme sport to visit Lošinj the island of vitality and to enjoy this sports event and not only this sport. From 21-22 April 2018, around 300 competitors from all over the world will descend the 1.8 km of paths and lookouts of the island of vitality, taking part in an extreme bike race in the World Cup – Downhill Lošinj.

This year Easter is on April 1^st (April fools day) when people make pranks to each other so this year we might ending eating salty chocolate or get colored wooden egg. 😀

Since year 2000, Carnival of Losinj associations has over 150 members and they normally attend international Carnival of Rijeka, listed as one of Top 500 European Events, Sunday Times declared Carnival of Rijeka one of the most exotic events in the world and included it in the book: “501 must be there events”.
